SPECIALTY GLASS
Custom Specialty Glass: Back-Painted, Etched & Reeded
Specialty glass covers a range of decorative treatments applied to glass — including back-painted glass (glass with color applied to the reverse side for a smooth, glossy finish), etched glass (glass with a frosted, textured pattern cut into the surface), laminated glass (two or more layers bonded together for strength and safety), and reeded glass (glass pressed with fine vertical ridges for a fluted look). Ability Glass and Mirror fabricates all four for backsplashes, partitions, and standalone feature pieces.

CRAFTMANSHIP
Designed To Transform Your Space
Each specialty glass type requires a different fabrication process: back-painted glass is sprayed and cured in controlled conditions to achieve an even, durable color coat; etched glass is treated with an acid or sandblasting process to create a consistent frosted pattern; reeded glass is formed with its ridge pattern during manufacturing or can be glass that has the grooves cut out and then cut to size; laminated glass is built up from multiple panes bonded under heat and pressure. We select the right glass and finish for your application, then cut, edge, and install it to spec.

WHY CHOOSE ABILITY GLASS & MIRROR
Back-painted glass is the go-to when you want a bold, saturated color with a high-gloss, easy-to-clean surface — it's especially popular for kitchen backsplashes and table tops. Etched glass is the right choice when you want privacy or texture without losing light, such as on an interior door or partition. Reeded glass has become a favorite for cabinetry and partitions where a soft, ribbed texture and diffused view are desired — it reads as more tactile and current than plain clear glass. It can also be a great choice when you want light to come through but also want privacy. Exterior bathroom doors for example often use reeded glass. Laminated glass has historically been chosen for safety and sound-dampening in larger installations, but now with the wide range of options for laminating it can be the go to choice for creative effects.. Which one fits depends on whether you're prioritizing color, privacy, texture, or structural performance.
